We're incredibly grateful to our Chapter One community. Your support takes many forms - volunteering weekly to build children's skills, confidence, and reading enjoyment; contributing to our fundraising appeals so we can reach even more young readers; and spreading awareness to grow our impact. Each makes a real difference.

Already part of our community and want to extend your impact? Read on to find out about some additional ways you can support Chapter One and help even more children discover the magic of reading!

If you have any questions about supporting Chapter One, please feel free to email Lisa Barea at lisa.barea@chapterone.org (Fundraising Manager) or Rhiannon Lucas-Thompson at rhiannon.lucas-thompson@chapterone.org (Fundraising Officer) - we’d be happy to help!

Payroll Giving

Imagine helping a child discover the magic of reading every time you get paid. With Payroll Giving, you can donate a portion of your salary each month in a simple, tax-efficient way. This gives Chapter One a reliable, regular source of income so we can plan more effectively to meet the growing need for additional reading support for children facing disadvantage across the UK.

Donations come out of your gross salary - so if you donate £5 a month as a basic rate tax payer, you’ll only pay £4 and your gift goes even further to help children discover the joy of reading:

Payroll Giving is available to all salaried Pay As You Earn (PAYE) employees and is easy to set up. Simply contact your payroll department to register for Payroll Giving, decide on how much you’d like to donate each payday and choose Chapter One to benefit from your support.

Payroll Giving is flexible, so you can change your donation amount at any time. Every donation makes a real difference to children’s reading abilities and enjoyment. Over a year:

  • £5 a month (£60 per year) could contribute towards the costs of improving our platform and maintaining our IT equipment

  • £10 a month (£120 per year) could contribute towards the costs to support one child's volunteer for the whole year (cost £137)

  • £20 a month (£240 per year) could cover more than half a year of one-to-one reading sessions for a child on our programme.

Share Giving with ShareGift

How does it work?

Have shares which are uneconomic to sell? Help support us by donating your small shareholdings to ShareGift, the share donation charity. ShareGift specialises in accepting small shareholdings that would cost more to sell than they are worth, generating substantial funding for charities. ShareGift also accepts larger donations of shares. Simply mention Chapter One (U.K.) Ltd when you make your gift.

Who is ShareGift?

ShareGift is an independent UK registered charity (No. 1052686) which specialises in releasing the money locked up in small shareholdings, but accepts donations of any size. ShareGift works by collecting together small lots of shares until there are enough to sell and then donating the resulting proceeds to a wide range of charities. To date ShareGift has donated over £50million and supported thousands of charities. ShareGift makes grants based upon a variety of factors including the suggestions of their donors. You can help support Chapter One’s work by donating any size of shareholdings you may have to ShareGift, and mentioning Chapter One.

Simply visit www.sharegift.org or reach out to the team on 020 7930 3737 or help@sharegift.org.
